U.S. Judge Halts California Plan to Require Glyphosate Warnings
March 12, 2018
Good news for the landscape industry! U.S. District Judge William Shubb has stopped California from requiring a “Prop 65” warning labeling for Roundup® and other glyphosate based products. While glyphosate will remain on the Prop 65 list as this time, Roundup® products will NOT require a label for compliance in July 2018.
While just a label requirement, the legislation could have tarnished the Roundup brand with consumers, cities, schools and more. Glyphosate is the most used and most tested pesticide in the world, and labeling it a known carcinogen would have substantial impact on the green industry.
Monsanto will continue legal action in the coming months to oppose glyphosate’s inclusion on the state’s list of cancer-causing products.
